One of the priorities this month was the new job board section, which launch is planned before the end of this year. Now it become an emergency to launch it as we have already requests from some companies interested to advertise their jobs on our network. Currently 75% of the code is done even its started last week, there is few marketing points that I’m cleaning up after that we’ll announce the first beta online. This have been said, I’m not busy anymore, I’m overloaded !!

Almost one month since we moved the website to a new server and I think that we are ready today to boost the network with new members. This month PHPMagazine.net served about 60GB for an average of 10,00 page views and 3,000 unique visitors per day, and I can’t keep secret that we plan to multiply this number by 3 for next year and hitting the 1M page views/month.
Who we are ?
Me, Myself and I
Well, currently we are only three addicted bloggers Karim2k, Tom and Hatem. There is others members not official who help with the website such Bruce Painter, for english content reviewing and many others.
Why join us ?
First it’s a crazy experience as we don’t stop experimenting new things everyday. If you enjoy blogging about IT, share experience with others, work on Open Source projects, this is the place to be.

I spend two hours compiling ImageMagick to make the new BetterFileUploader 2.0 plugin works. Finally we make it work with the help of Sadri. The problem that Image::Magick require the latest ImageMagick installed, while in rpm list I have an old version only. Anyway now you can enjoy uploading and resizing images on phpmagazine.net, note that we’ll start accepting new members very soon. Currently I’m testing the wheeljack-revision of Movable Type which introduce a feature that I was looking for since long time which is cloning blogs in addition to the advanced user permissions system.
I still have a long list of todos for our publishing platform, those who have access on the wiki can check (or contact me for pass - members only). Trying to get ready for next year, so we can relaunch the network with lot of great new services, one of them is paid ! That’s lot of good news that I don’t want to announce now, that was just a glimpse.
EvaluSense is an evaluation tool for your content, interesting solution for people running AdSense or any PPC ads solution. The basis of evaluSense is analyzing articles and extract relevant paid keywords, then based on many business information updated daily it will generate the evaluSense index. The information provided could help optimizing your content revenue but without any guarantee, revenue from advertising depend on many factors.

What’s new in EvaluSense 2.0 ?
Since the very first edition of EvaluSense many ideas came to the current implementation which make me decide to make it a separate project. The new version will provide different ways to evaluate your content :
- First, you enter your article’s information and generate the classic evaluSense index
- Second, in addition to your article information you can specify one keyword to optimize your content accordingly.
- Third, optimize your content according to more than one keyword.
Since two years I’m not sure how many server we tried, but its certainly a lot ! Today the first time we moved to a dedicated hosting, no more hassles about resources or warning to interrupt our service ! The DNS have been updated last night and today I’m already able to work on the new server. Comments have been enabled again and until now I really didn’t notice a big usage of resources, it still under 2% for both Memory and CPU even that I had to rebuild the whole website many times yesterday. I was worrying about website speed, but looks like it is fine too !
I have called our new server HostPHP, there is certainly lot of work to do, especially moving all other accounts from old server. But anyway it looks like until now everything is working great. The server is a P4 2.00GHz 512 KB cache 1Gig RAM but RAM is shared between me and another customer and I have a full 512M
Server is provided by RackForce, and I got many positive feedback from their current customers in addition that prices are really interesting compared to all other providers, its also very easy to upgrade without interruption at all !
Finally there was no solution than moving to a dedicated server, and until we can find a suitable solution to move the whole website comments have been disabled on the whole network. Below latest usage of the website :
Average CPU%:- 0.88
Average MEM%:- 6.8
Top Process %CPU 57.0 /usr/bin/perl -w mt-comments.cgi
Top Process %CPU 55.0 /usr/bin/perl -w mt-comments.cgi
Top Process %CPU 41.0 /usr/bin/perl -w mt-comments.cgi
======================================
Memory should be below 3%, I don’t know how to monitor this in the current time, so the only solution I found is to disable comments. In the same time I’m taking backup of the whole website, who knows !! Unfortunately everything came always together, we’ll be certainly back with better service in the future. Thanks for your understanding.
In March 2007 PHP Magazine Network will have exactly two years since its first creation, I’m not going to celebrate a birthday, but I want to remember the first day I registered the domain. In that day I wanted to launch something new, but I didn’t knew what or how. I thought it will be great idea if we could attract many PHP authors in one website, but in practice I knew that it’s very difficult to realize. So day after day the concept of PHPMagazine.net become more clear and from 4 or 5 blogs, today we have more than 20 blogs in the network without counting the PHP Planet, the Shop, the forums … and of course our perso blogs ![]()

Just to say that PHPMagazine.net is not only about PHP, but also about any related technology from AJAX, to Firefox, to Hosting providers, WebServices, XML, Open Source, Web Design, Blogging, Advertising, … We even talk about VoiceXML and telephony application development, crazy yes ? But we are the provider of the first and unique authoring tool for VoiceXML in PHP, the open source VoiceXML PHP Framework.

After close to one month of absence, I’m finally back ! Yesterday I got my left hand free, even with some difficulties to move it but I have no problems to type with it. So to be back to the normal life of PHPMagazine.net, I agree that lot of news haven’t been covered in the last month and I’m not sure if I’ll have the time to talk about it now but anyway I prefer to start from scratch with the current news and everything new.
In the same time that I’m preparing some new stuff for the network, especially around the Firefox Magazine and the AJAX Magazine. I would like to thanks everyone who send me email and ask about my health, or ask about the website. I’m doing very well today, I have some medicine, some massage to do so I can move my hand normally like before, otherwise everything looks to be okay ! More news are coming in the next days, so just stay tuned !!
It’s not the first time that I’ve been dugg, but this time I wasn’t expect it, specially the result ! Yesterday the bandwidth exceeded the 30GB, while we’re still 10 days to the end of the month. First I was wondering if someone was teleporting the website, but checking logs everything was okay
So I just increased the bandwidth and today I was surprised that my rank at alexa jumped higher and higher to 800 Reach per million ! I’ve been Digged !
But I’m glad that the service have survived the Digg effect, something that I was worried about too much before and we used to test lot of plateforms before finding the most suitable one for our website. Tom know what am talking about
Anyway we’ll keep working on the relooking in the next few days before jumping to more interesting stuff ! Stay Tuned !
