There is no big news in the PHP Community since long time, a news that make newspapers and magazines talk about PHP, an innovation that will change the world ! Does the scripting language war is over ? Someone could inform us at least who won.

This month will held the Zend/PHP Conference & Expo and next month there is the Forum PHP in Paris. Almost same conferences, same topics, same people talking here and there. Sice last year, nothing new happened ! PHP5 is there with strongest OOP support and lot of new features … and what’s next ? PHP4 is still the most used, and migration have been very very slow !

In the PEAR/PECL side there is major releases with new features etc, but almost same gaps still over there. Even with the big number of packages and solution available PEAR/PECL still easy to use at administrators level. Developers and newbie specially will find always difficulties to install, upgrade, explore the current capabilities of PEAR/PECL. Which make them very farfrom being adopted on web application development.

Better than seing thousands of frameworks and hundreds of CMS, I think its time to join effort to make one good framework for PHP and one good CMS. From today until friday there is the Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco, many new solution and technology will be revealed and announced there. Is PHP ready for Web 2.0 ?

The answer is in PEAR, HTML_AJAX is actually the only package available in alpha version. Joshua Eichorn is just the only one making effort to bring something new into PHP and until today I didn’t seen any other development around. I don’t think that people are waiting the stable version to start using a package ? Yes you cannot get it by using PEAR command line, but you can get it from the PEAR website.

Is Zend for PHP what Google is for Search engines ? Anyway it is the only company that is bringing PHP to entreprise level with professional applications and solutions like the latest Zend Platform. Is there a lack of ideas, of time, or of support ?
